Career counseling begins as early as when the child is in the womb and parents decide for an unborn child the possibilities he/she can seek in the future. Though this is a good way of looking into the future, one should also take the child’s interests and capabilities and then plan on a more serious note at the right time.
Schools help in vocational counseling and private counselors also do their bit in allowing the child to express themselves as to where they would like to see themselves in the near future. Children keep having varied likes and dislikes so it is important to work on a handholding exercise and take the student on a journey exploring in detail their abilities and interests.

Helping them choose the right subjects to pursue further and showing them possibilities in their chosen field is the work of the counselor as also giving them alternatives in their sphere.
Vocational testing can be arranged if so desired.
